For the past 4 years, soup has been my best friend. Whenever I had to give my intestines a rest from diverticulitis or an IBS attack, I would make a giant pot of organic chicken broth. I would strain it and put it in containers to freeze with the meat and without meat.
As needed, I would finish it with potatoes, carrots, celery, and even rice. Sometimes I would only add root vegetables or simply plain broth to drink.
This past year was the most difficult of all for me. It turned out I had twisted intestines that required immediate surgery. There are no words that would properly explain the level of pain leading to my surgery, as well as all the complications that came after surgery. My one nourishment was the freezer full of my homemade broth. I was able to drink cups of this healing liquid, eventually adding vegetables I could puree and eat in the broth.
This base can become at least four different soups and I encourage you to be creative and share how you would do things differently and modify for your dietary needs. I would love to learn new methods and suggestions from you.
